Andres, of East Gull Lake, finished with a total time of 1:21:47, eighth overall. Laura Hoffman, of Edina was the second female to cross the line more than six minutes behind Andres with a time of 1:27:06, 24th overall.

“My goal today was to try and make it in at least the top ten of the guys,” said Andres.

The top overall finisher was Duluth's Josh Blankenheim and he finished the swim, 17-mile bike, and 3.9 mile run in 1:15:03. Blankenheim eked out the victory by beating Marcus Stromberg, of Buffalo, in 16 seconds.

“While there were good competitors today, I was feeling good, and was able to squeak it out in the last mile,” said Blankenheim. “If it would have been a three mile run I might have been in trouble.”

This was Blankenheim's second time competing in the Lakes Country Triathlon. In 2008, he finished third overall with a time of 1:19:40. It was also his second Triathlon win in as many weeks as he placed first in the Lake Marion Triathlon in Lakeville last weekend.

“I really like the event, they do a really nice job, all the volunteers, and they are very vocal and friendly on the course,” said Blankenheim.

For Andres it was her second win. She won the 2006 event in 1:29:04. She also placed second in 2005 and 2008.

“This was the very first triathlon I ever did,” said Andres. “But I haven't done it every single year.”

Along with winning this year's race, the 10th and final event of the Tri Minnesota Series, the victory also assured Andres of the top female spot in the 2011 series. Andres competed in four other Tri Minnesota Series triathlons placing first in three of them.

“I have probably done like ten races this summer, this is my last one, and then I have the Twin Cities Marathon coming up in October,” said Andres. “I am signing up for the Iron Man Wisconsin next year and my ultimate goal is to qualify for the Iron Man in Kona, Hawaii.
