Sophomores open with overtime win

The Brainerd Warrior sophomore football team defeated Rocori 26-20 in overtime Thursday at Cold Spring. 

Rocori returned the opening kickoff for a score and missed the 2-point conversion. 

The Warriors then matched Rocori score for score with quarterback Tom Stoxen scoring two touchdowns and tight end Alex Evanson scoring one. Beau Janousek tallied on a 2-point conversion.

The winning score was by Chris Pohlkamp in overtime.

Mason Severson had a productive day carrying the ball for Brainerd.

The Warriors’ defense caused two turnovers. Winsten Fenske blocked a punt and Stoxen intercepted a pass. Brainerd’s defense shut down Rocori in the overtime period.

Brainerd had 309 total yards to 268 gained by Rocori.

The Warriors travel to Willmar 5 p.m. Thursday.
