LOCAL SHORTS: YMCA Youth Flag Football League starts Sept. 15


The Brainerd Family YMCA is accepting registrations for its upcoming youth flag football  league, which is open to boys and girls in grades K-3.


All games are played on Saturday mornings at Forestview Middle School. 

The season runs from Sept. 17 through Oct. 22. 

Register at the YMCA. Volunteer coaches are needed. A coach’s meeting will be at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 14 at the YMCA.

Junior varsity swimmers win

Brainerd defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice 109-65 in junior varsity swimming and diving Thursday.

Individual winners were Delaney Kennedy in the 200 free, Annie Grabowski in the 200 IM, Alex Eigen in the 50 free, Bailey Bessinpass in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke, and Jane Stromberg in the 100 breaststroke.

Relay winners were the 200 medley team of Hailey Hensel, Sammy Schultz, Bessinpass and Kaelyn Spencer; the 200 free team of Jackie Caughey, Spencer, Madi Hensel and Savanna Savage; and the 400 free team of Mady Karels, Kennedy, Bessinpas and Spencer.
