GIRLS SOCCER: Beltran, Warriors defeat Willmar 6-1
BAXTER — Emily Beltran put seven shots on goal scoring four times to lead the Brainerd Warriors to a 6-1 Central Lakes Conference victory over the Willmar Cardinals Thursday.
It was the second win in a row this week for the Warriors following a 6-1 drubbing of Fergus Falls Tuesday in which Beltran also had a hat trick.
Beltran tallied her first two goals in the first half before Willmar countered seven seconds before the break to pull within 2-1.
Beltran played a role in scoring on all six goals picking up two more in the second half and registering a pair of assists on goals by Shayna Vastila and Paige Garber.
Brainerd outshot the Cards 26-7 with Tori Saxum near perfect in goal turning away six Willmar attempts.
“We finally got our groove back,” said Brainerd coach Ricky Lacerte. “Our midfield play was solid and if they keep giving the ball to our forwards like they did tonight, we will be hard to stop.”
