GIRLS TENNIS: Warriors remain unbeaten in conference play
ALEXANDRIA — The Brainerd Warriors rolled to their ninth Central Lakes Conference win without a loss as they defeated Alexandria 5-2 on Thursday.
Brainerd entered the day tied with St. Cloud Tech for first place in the CLC standings with Alexandria second.
Mikinzee Salo, Briana Rademacher, Natalie Comeau and Mackayla Headlee swept singles matches for the Warriors.
The No. 2 doubles team of Nichole Gervenak-Megan Hintz provided the other Brainerd win.
“It wasn’t our finest day,” Warriors coach Ellen Fussy said. “It was terribly windy, but it was windy for both teams. How we played we don’t want to play this way next week (in the section tournament). Maybe it was nice to get this out of our system.”
Kayla Kramer-Sara Wennerstrand lost at No. 1 doubles, as did Morgan and Caitlin Steffen at No. 3.
“No. 3 doubles never really found their stride,” Fussy said. “No. 1 doubles started slow and just couldn’t find their groove. But we’re not concerned. We know they can play better than they did today. We were concerned about a lull. We’re hoping this was our lull. We have to go back to Fergus Falls and play our game (Friday) and play hard and end the season well against Tech.”
