HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PR-B shoots down Drakes for 55-0 win

PINE RIVER — Russell Burgoyne and Henry Krecklaw each scored two touchdowns as the Pine River-Backus Tigers finished Monday what they started Friday with a 55-0 trouncing of the Blackduck Drakes in a North Star East Conference game.

The game was suspended with 5:17 left in the first quarter Friday because of lightning and the Tigers leading 14-0. It resumed at 5 p.m. Monday.

“It was kind of an awkward thing,” PR-B coach Tom Demars said. “Normally we play the (junior varsity) game Monday afternoon. It kind of didn’t seem right going out there. It seemed like it should be Friday night.”

Burgoyne scored on a 4-yard run Friday and on a 18-yard pass from Nathan Holm in the third quarter  Monday.

Krecklaw scored in the fourth on runs of 29 and 8 yards.

Holm threw two touchdown passes, one to Beau Howard, who also heaved a TD pass to Tony Brunhuber.

Demars singled out the play of linemen Rick Peterson, Dalton DeLong, Tyler Newman, Weston Smith, Aaron Bouchonvill and Kent. They helped PR-B rush for 302 yards and pass for 121.

“We ran the ball more effectively than we have all year,” Demars said. “Those guys played a good, solid game all the way around.”

The Tigers are 4-2 in the conference and overall as they head to Pillager to face the once-beaten Huskies Friday night. A win would enable PR-B to tie Pillager for the lead in the East.

“It is a big one,” Demars said. “They’re tough. We will have our hands full.”
