GIRLS SOCCER: Top-seeded Anoka shuts out Warriors

ANOKA — Goalie Tori Saxum recorded 19 saves for the eighth-seeded Brainerd Warriors in a 3-0 loss to the No. 1-seeded Anoka Tornadoes in the Section 8-2A quarterfinals Thursday night.

Brainerd entered the second half down one to the Tornados.

“The girls played hard,” said Brainerd head coach Ricky Lacerte. “I think Anoka was frustrated at the end of the first half.”

Brainerd, which was riding a three-game win streak, kept the game close.

“We got a penalty kick early in the second half that was deflected,” Lacerte said. “After that they kind of controlled the game.

Brainerd finishes the season 9-9-1 overall. Anoka is 8-5-4 and has won four straight heading in to Saturday’s semifinals.
