Sophomores defeat Moorhead

The Brainerd Warrior sophomore football team defeated the Moorhead Spuds 36-14 Thursday.

Brainerd played tough defense and held Moorhead’s running game in check. The Spuds ended up with 198 total yards.

The Warriors had 283 total yards and controlled the ball most of the game.

Scoring touchdowns in the first half for Brainerd were Mason Severson on runs of 2 and 5 yards and TJ Graumann on a blocked punt return of 15 yards.

In the second half Isaiah Smith caught a 35-yard TD pass from Tom Stoxen. Smith also scored on a 38-yard pass from Chris Pohlkamp. 

Logan McElfresh kicked two extra points and Isaiah Smith and Graumann each added 2-point conversions.

Defensively, Winsten Fenske blocked a punt, Austin Mau recovered a fumble and Stoxen intercepted a pass.

Brainerd hosts Sauk Rapids at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
