CLASS 1A TENNIS: S-M duo in consolation semifinals


MINNEAPOLIS — Staples-Motley’s doubles team of Maggie O'Keefe-Kelsey Zetah lost their first match but won their second to advance to the consolation semifinals in the Class 1A individual tournament Thursday at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.


In the first round, O’Keefe, a junior, and Zetah, a sophomore, lost to Janna Juntunen-Sabrina Zimmel of Osakis 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7).

They rebounded in the consolation quarterfinals to beat Kristen Brandhagen-Rachel Kamath of Rochester Lourdes 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

O’Keefe-Zetah will play Patricia Ott-Kelle Thompson (Lac qui Parle Valley) at 8 a.m. Friday in the consolation semifinals. The consolation championship is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday.
