Elks Hoop Shoot competition Dec. 17c

The Brainerd Elks Lodge will conduct its 39th annual Hoop Shoot at 1 p.m. Dec. 17 at Forestview Middle School in Baxter.

This is a national free throw shooting contest for youngsters ages 8 through 13.

Age categories are for 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advance through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals.

Brainerd Elks Lodge winners will compete against other contestants in the district event Jan. 28 at Lake Region Christian School in Baxter.

Brainerd Elks contestants come from a 30-mile radius of Brainerd/Baxter, and many of whom have already won their division at their local schools.

In addition to the Brainerd area hoop shoot and the district hoop shoot in Baxter, winners advance to the Minnesota State Hoop Shoot at Hutchinson, the regional hoop shoot at Iowa City, Iowa, and the national hoop shoot at Springfield, Mass.
