Perham opens title defense with win over C-I

CROSBY — Cold shooting doomed the Crosby-Ironton Rangers as they opened the season with a 54-32 non-conference loss to the defending Class 2A state champion Perham Yellowjackets Friday.

The Rangers hit just 10 of 40 from the field (25 percent), while the Yellowjackets connected on 23-of-42 (55 percent).

Michael Hoge and Jacob and Will Goodwin all tallied eight points to lead the Rangers. Hoge and Daniel Hudrlik had seven rebounds apiece.

DEER RIVER — Nevin Greer scored 19 points followed by Logan Lange’s 14 to lead the Pequot Lakes Patriots in their season-opening 75-65 non-conference loss to Deer River Friday.

Pequot trailed 33-32 at halftime, but sent Deer River to the free throw line 41 times. The Warriors connected on 33 of those attempts.

Riley Johnson scored 12 points and Jordan Redmond 11 for Pequot Lakes, which will face Brainerd Tuesday.

ASHBY — Dallas Ehrmantraut scored a game-high 36 points, but the Verndale Pirates opened the season with an 85-56 non-conference loss to Ashby Friday.

Verndale shot 40 percent from the field and just 4-of-14 from behind the arc. The Arrows shot 61 percent from the floor.

Ryan Redfield tallied 12 points for W-DC, which didn’t have an answer for Sauk Centre’s Patrick Knoblauch, who led all scorers with 24 points.
