STAPLES — Jordan Heldman recorded his 100th career win with a pin in the first period as the Staples-Motley Cardinals won two meets in a Mid-State Conference triangular Tuesday night.

Heldman improved to 3-1 this season. Teammate Blake Petrich improved to 4-0 and Brett Lisson raised his record to 5-1.

AITKIN — Eleven Aitkin grapplers won by pins as the Gobblers opened the season with a decisive 69-12 win over Great River Conference foe Rush City-Braham Tuesday night.

Seven were registered in less than two minutes, with the quickest pin of the night going to Colton LaPlante in 18 seconds at 106 pounds.

Dan Nordean won by fall in 59 seconds at 113.

Road crew wins two

BERTHA — Seven wrestlers for Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus went 2-0 on the night as the Road Crew opened its dual meet season with a pair of wins at the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Triangular Tuesday night.

The Road Crew defeated Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 45-36 and Osakis 57-19, getting six wins by fall in each match.

Nate Adkins picked up his first varsity win with a pin against Osakis while going 1-1.
