Cerney, Warriors top Cardinals

Mikayla Cerney scored a 34.9 to win the all-around for Brainerd as it defeated Alexandria 134.9-131.625 in a Central Lakes Conference matchup Thursday at Brainerd High School.

“We started out pretty shaky, but we got a wake-up call after bars and decided it was time to compete,” said head coach Dave Maras. “We came back and had a great beam and floor.”

Madison Grausam won both the vault and floor exercise, followed by teammate Rachel Hoffman finishing first on the bars.

Cerney’s 34.9 came from third-place finishes on bars, vault and floor and her win on beam. Hoffman was second in the all-around with Grausam claiming fourth.

In junior varsity, Brainerd beat Alexandria 115.25-109.45. Oliva Klinger won vault and Jackie Caughey won bars.
