Warrior Boys Hockey: Another Pohlkamp hat trick leads Warriors

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Matt Pohlkamp scored another hat trick and Aaron Rich added a goal and three assists in the Brainerd Warriors’ 7-3 win over the Fargo Davies Eagles in the opening round of the Jason Stadstad tournament Wednesday.

Fargo took a 2-0 lead before Pohlkamp netted his first goal, with assists from Rich and Mitchell McLain with 1:33 left in the first.

The Warriors erupted for five goals in the second following a power-play goal by the Eagles that was answered by Pohlkamp’s second goal, also on a power play, to bring the Warriors back within 3-2.

Then, in less than two minutes, Cole Smith and McLain scored on a pair of power plays and Rich and Alex Mimmack added insurance goals to give Brainerd a 6-3 lead after two.

Pohlkamp scored his third goal at 12:34 of the third, with assists going to Rich and Gaven Motschenbacher.

Brainerd was 3-for-5 on power plays, with all three coming in the middle period, and outshot the Eagles 35-17 with goalie Jared Stearns made 14 saves in Warriors’ net.

Brainerd’s JV lost 6-2 to the Fargo Davies JV.
