Biathlon: Ruzich finishes second in Thursday race

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Jenna Ruzich of Baxter finished fourth in the Youth Women’s 6-kilometer sprint race Friday as U.S. Trials for Youth and Junior teams concluded.

Ruzich went 2, 1, shooting in 25:20. She finished 23 seconds behind Mikaela Paluszek of Vermont, Thursday’s winner who placed third Friday.

On the percentage points back system, in the best two of the three races, preliminary results show Paluszek took the final spot that was open on the Youth Women’s team since she beat Ruzich on Thursday by 11 seconds and with Friday’s win.

Ty Hadrits of Brainerd shot 2, 1 and finished in 28:27 in the Youth Men’s division for 10th place.

On Thursday, Ruzich shot 1, 1, 2, 2 in 43:10 and finished second in the Youth Women’s 10-kilometer pursuit.

Hadrits shot 2, 3, 0, 2 and finished in 40:05. Winner was Nick Proell of St. Cloud in 31:30.

One of the four team slots was filled by Anna Kubek of Duluth based on previous races and winning the senior IBU Trials at Mt. Itasca in Coleraine earlier in December.

The formal team was scheduled to be announced at 4 p.m. Alaska time Friday.
