Flying Warriors Girls Hockey: Kendall's goal lifts Flying Warriors to win

FERGUS FALLS — The Brainerd/Little Falls Flying Warriors evened their Central Lakes Conference record at 3-3 as CJ Kendall scored the game-winner with nine seconds left in the third period for a 5-4 win over the Fergus Falls Otters Tuesday night.

Kendall was assisted on the game-winner by Emily Stark and Kristina Anderson.

The game-winner cut short the plan that head coach Stephanie Sustercich was putting together.

“We were preparing for an overtime because the clock was winding down and we were surprised when CJ And Emily came together for the winning goal,” Sustercich said.

The Flyer Warriors fell behind 2-0 in the opening period, but worked their way back as Anderson scored a power-play goal at 6:14, with assists to Sarah Wennerstrand and Zoe Wolhart.

Wolhart came through with a short-handed goal at 4:27 of the first to tie the game at two.

Wennerstrand scored with 40 seconds left in the second to cut the lead to 4-3.

In the third period, Wolhart scored the tying goal at 3:10, setting up the winning goal for Kendall with time running out.

Brainerd/Little-Falls managed 23 shots on the Otters’ net and Jodi Bertrand kicked away 20 shots in the win.

The Flying Warriors stopped a six-game losing skid while the Otters dropped to 0-7 in conference play.

“We had a goal to win the game tonight,” Sustercich said. “We had to work each period and we struggled in the first period. By the third period we came together and accomplished our goal.”
