Area Wrestling: Gobblers, W-DC both fall short in duals

GRAND RAPIDS — Jordan Chouanard remained undefeated, but the Aitkin Gobblers came up short losing 37-28 to the 6-2 Grand Rapids Thunderhawks in a non-conference match Thursday.

Chouanard, ranked third in Class 1A at 145 pounds, improved to 18-0 with a 10-1 major decision over Alex Seaner.

Winning by pins for the Gobblers were Noah Landrus at 126, Brian Wold (132) and Adam Bast (195).

Jack Braton eked out a 5-3 overtime decision at 113 and Adam Bast out-pointed Aaron Smith 16-11 at 170.

WADENA — Sam Waln won by pin bringing his record to 14-4, but the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines were defeated 42-32 by the Pelican Rapids Vikings in a non-conference dual Thursday.

Devin Barthel and Tony Reurick also won by pin for the Wolverines, which dropped their fifth straight.
