Area Wrestling: Cardinals pin loss on W-DC

STAPLES — Blake Petrich remained undefeated at 195 pounds and helped the Staples-Motley Cardinals to a 49-21 Mid-State Conference win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines Tuesday.

Petrich pinned Caleb Monson in 46 seconds improving his record to 17-0 with 14 falls.

Also winning by fall for S-M were Brady Becker (113), Josh Becker (132), Devin Brown (145) and Jordan Heldman (170). Blake Miller won a 4-0 decision at 120 pounds improving his record to 17-4.

Wadena-Deer Creek got pins from Triston Godel (106) and Mason Lohmiller (285).

Aitkin wins two

ISLE — The Aitkin Gobblers remained perfect in the Great River Conference and blew out Crosby-Ironton all in the same day.

The Gobblers beat Mille Lacs 49-17 to move to 4-0 in the confernece and defeated C-I 69-6 Tuesday in the Mille Lacs triangular.

Jordan Chouanard remained perfect on the season and moved to three pins away from Aitkin’s all-time career leader Matt Christensen.

Pierz wins two

OGILVIE — Kolton Eischens picked up two wins at 106 pounds to improve to 20-3 and help Class 1A’s 10th-ranked Pierz Pioneers to two wins Tuesday at Ogilvie triangular.

Pierz beat Ogilvie 72-7 and downed Hinckley-Finlayson 53-22.

Nathan Tomala picked up two wins for the Pioneers improving to 18-2. Evan Woitalla, Chris Ortman, Alex Julich, Brad Meyer, Nick Lochner, Dustin Waytashek, and Travis Johnson also went 2-0 for Pierz.
