Area Wrestling: Chouanard sets school pins record

DEER RIVER ­— Jordan Chouanard set a school record for pins and the Aitkin Gobblers easily defeated Bemidji 59-12 and Deer River 61-18 in a triangular Tuesday.

Third-ranked Chouanard pinned both of his opponents, bringing his career total to 82, breaking the previous record set by Matt Christiansen in 2008. In the process, Chouanard improved his season record to 27-0.

Also going 2-0 for Aitkin were Colton LaPlante, Jarod Novak, Noah Landrus, Brian Wold, Adam Jackson, Travis Bare, Adam Bast and Alan Bast.

Aitkin, 4-0 in the Great River Conference, faces Hinckley-Finlayson on Friday for the conference championship.

KIMBALL — Class 1A’s second-ranked Kimball Cubs won the highly anticipated Central Minnesota Conference showdown against Pierz by defeating the Pioneers 47-22 on Tuesday.

The Cubs remained undefeated at 20-0 while Pierz slipped to 17-4.

Kimball used falls from Tanner Mills (126 pounds), Marcus Hamer (132), Jordan Joseph (160), Travis Wills (182), Tim Konz (195) and Alex Thurber (285) to score 36 team points.
