Fergus Falls wins final event to nip Brainerd by a point

FERGUS FALLS — The Brainerd Warriors didn’t win a single event, but kept the meet close by going 2-3-4 in nine events before losing 93-92 to the defending Class 1A state champion Fergus Falls Otters in Tuesday’s Central Lakes Conference dual meet.

In a battle of unbeaten 6-0 teams, it was fitting the outcome came down to the final event with the Otters winning the 400-yard freestyle relay by a 2.66-second margin to hold off the Warriors.

Sam Dellacecca finished second in the 200 and 100 freestyle races and was on two second-place relays.

Also picking up second-place individual finishes for the Warriors were Tyler Schneider (200 IM), Justin Kuglin (50 free), Seth Murrey (diving), Josh McKeag (100 butterfly), Nick Goll (500 free), Matt Majerle (100 backstroke) and Joe Wells (100 breaststroke).
