Lakers outscore Lightning 5-1

DETROIT LAKES — Hunter Leslie scored the only goal in the Northern Lakes Lightning’s 5-1 loss to the Detroit Lakes Lakers in a key Mid-State Conference matchup Saturday.

The Lightning have a chance to win the conference title if they can beat Prairie Center at Long Prairie on Tuesday and Park Rapids defeats the Lakers the same night. The Lightning could also finish as low as fourth.

Leslie’s goal came on a power play in the second period with assists going to Alex Galligan and Kyle Narveson.

Northern Lakes was outshot 46-16 with goalie Joey Bergquist making 41 saves.

RED LAKE FALLS — Garrett Schmitz scored twice and Bridger Pettit and Dylan Phillips added goals as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines lost 7-4 to the Red Lake Falls Eagles Saturday in a non-conference game.

The game was knotted 3-3 after two and 4-4 midway through the final period.

Cory McManigle made 21 saves for the Wolverines, who outshot the Eagles 30-28.

The Wolverines have lost four straight and drop to 1-22 overall.
