Area Boys Basketball: Howard leads Tigers to playoff victory

PINE RIVER — Beau Howard scored 31 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, leading the No. 7 Pine River-Backus Tigers in a 79-55 victory over the No. 10 Northland Eagles in the first round of the East Subsection 5-1A playoffs Monday.

Nathan Holm, who sank 26 points for the Tigers, was among six other scorers in the win.

Patrick Kemper led scoring for the Eagles with 17 points.

SWANVILLE — Dallas Ehrmantraut scored 21 points and Aaron Denny added 18 points for the 10th-seeded Verndale Piratesas they ended their season with a 68-56 upset from the No. 7 Swanville Bulldogs during Monday’s West Subsection 5-1A opening round.
