Brainerd High School assistant coach Deryl Ramey will be an assistant for the North team in the 39th annual Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game.


Ramey will be coaching in the game for the third time. He was the Outstate head coach in 1988 and Outstate honorary coach in 2009.

Head coaches for the game are Jeff Schlieff of Spring Lake Park (North) and Bill Ihrke of Plainview-Elgin-Millville (South).

The game will be played at 1 p.m. June 30 at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Others assisting Schlieff with the North are Matt Walter (Annandale), Dan Essler (New London-Spicer), Troy Hendricks (Bemidji), Jeff Moritko (Totino-Grace), and Chuck Ross (Underwood).

Ihrke taught physical education and coached football, wrestling, and baseball in Brainerd for two years. Assisting Ihrke with the South are Andrew Fleischman (Edgerton/Ellsworth), Ken Helland (Le Center), Mike Kesler (Rochester Lourdes), Paul Lemke (Glencoe-Silver Lake), Chad Sexauer (South St. Paul) and Bob Urness (Winona, retired).

Honorary coaches are members of the MFCA Hall of Fame: Pete Herges, Albany, North, inducted in 1986; and Jim Simser, New Richland-Hartland and Fairmont, South inducted in 2000).

All-Star notes

• North and South All-Star rosters will be announced in late March.

• All-Star training camp will be at St. John’s University (Collegeville) June 24-30.

• Media day will be June 27 at TCF Bank Stadium.

Tickets can be purchased from the high school coach in your community. Tickets will also be available at TCF Bank Stadium on June 30.
