BIATHLON: Ruzich third, Baker fifth on first day


Jenna Ruzich of Baxter and Zean Baker of Nisswa finished third and fifth, respectively, on the first day of the U.S. Biathlon Nationals Thursday at West Yellowstone, Mont.

In the youth women’s 6-kilometer sprint with two shooting stages, Ruzich shot 4,1, with a time of 24:47.

In the youth men’s 7.5km division, Baker finished fifth by shooting 3,3 at 24:40.

Friday was an official training day. Saturday, competition continues with a pursuit format.
