BOYS HOCKEY: Rivard recipient of Fitterer Memorial Award

Landon “Happy” Rivard received the Jason Fitterer Memorial Award at the Brainerd VFW Bantam A tournament March 10.

Jason Fitterer was a first-year Bantam in 1985. He attended a Bantam Elite Camp and received the most improved player award. Jason was killed in a bicycle/auto accident Aug. 6, 1985.

The Fitterer family established a hockey camp award in Jason’s memory the same year. The award is funded by the Fitterer family, Brainerd Amateur Hockey Association and Minnesota Hockey Camp.

Each year at the Jason Fitterer Memorial Bantam A tournament, a first-year Brainerd Bantam A player is chosen to receive the award. The recipient is given a week at Minnesota Hockey Camp.

The player chosen must exhibit the qualities of being coachable, have a positive attitude, be a team player, be motivated to learn and have a love for the game.
