The Central Lakes College Raiders notched their second and third wins of the season Tuesday by sweeping the Hibbing Cardinals in a non-divisional doubleheader in Brainerd.

It was CLC’s first doubleheader sweep since May 9, 2010, when it swept Northland.

“We played two very good games,” CLC coach Pat Held said. “I’m very happy with the effort we put forth. It’s been a long time since we’ve done this and we took advantage of a very nice day we were blessed with.

“We played hard, we had good pitching, We’re a freshman-dominated team and they’re starting to learn a little bit about how to play.”

The Raiders won the first game 6-3 with Taz Seibert, Trey Thompson, Joe Gaida and Jaron Hanson each driving in runs.

Winning pitcher Sean Dormanen held Hibbing to just four hits.

“I’m especially happy for our sophomore players who went through last season and didn’t win a game,” said Held. “These guys hung with it the entire time and they’re providing us with real positive leadership.”

And CLC carried that strength into the second game and scored an 11-1 victory in five innings. Hanson led the Raiders with two RBIs, Seibert and Hoemberg each added one.

“We’ve still got a lot of tough games left but we’re moving in a better direction,” Held said. “It will be difficult to compete in the Southern Division but our games are closer-matched. We’re not that far away from playing teams we can beat.”
