TRACK AND FIELD: Jensen field athlete of week

MOORHEAD — Concordia College junior Kaari Jensen of Pierz was named the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Jensen posted an NCAA Division III-best score in the heptathlon last weekend at the College of St. Benedict Multi-Event Meet.

Jensen finished the two-day event with a total score of 4,690 points. That total was over 700 points more than the nearest competitor and is the No.1 total in all of Division III this season. She finished 15th in the heptathlon at the NCAA meet last season. Her total at the CSB event is already 276 points better than her 2011 season best.

Her event-by-event performances were equally impressive. Her time and distance in the 100-meter hurdles and javelin rank No. 1 in the MIAC this season. She also has turned in top-eight performances in the high jump, 200-meter dash and long jump.

In addition, she also ranks in the top 20 in the league in the shot put and 800-meter dash.

Jensen and the Cobbers compete at the Minnesota-Morris Open on Saturday, April 21. Concordia will host the Cobber Twilight Meet on April 24 at 3 p.m.
