STAPLES — A sixth-inning rally, highlighted by Blake Petrich’s RBI triple, helped the Staples-Motley Cardinals rally from a 5-3 deficit to defeat the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 6-5 in Game One of Thursday’s Mid-State Conference doubleheader.

Cody Drone’s infield single scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

S-M recorded the sweep with an 11-4 Game Two win.

In Game One, Jordan Jenkins went 2-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored for S-M.

Jacob Vetsch pitched the seventh to get the win and also pitched Game Two for his second win of the day.

Devon White doubled and Jenkins, Jalen Busker, Kyle Jansson, Jordan Wick and Drone all singled for the Cardinals. Busker, Jansson and Wick all drove in two runs.

LITTLE FALLS — Spencer Fenske went 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Little Falls Flyers to a 5-4 win over St. Cloud Cathedral in Thursday’s Granite Ridge Conference game.

Winning pitcher Luke Thoma struck out 10 and walked four, with three of the passes coming in the seventh along with a hit batter that allowed the Crusaders to rally from a 5-2 deficit.

Mitch Gregory contributed two doubles while going 2-4 for unbeaten Little Falls (7-0). Ian Stewart and Collin Eckman also finished 2-4 with the latter also hitting a double.

SEBEKA — Cole Hunstad went 3-3 for with three runs scored, a double and two RBIs during the Pillager Huskies’ 7-1 victory over Sebeka in a Park Region Conference game Thursday.

Tristin Litke was 2-3 with a triple, and Justin Hummel, Adam Obermiller and Zack Forsberg each added RBIs.

Matt Doss pitched six innings, striking out six and only allowing three runs.

PIERZ — The Pierz Pioneers were up 1-0 in the seventh with two out before Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa put together a walk and two hits to tie the score and went on to win the pitcher’s duel 2-1 in nine innings Thursday in a Central Minnesota Conference game.

Brad Meyer took the loss in relief of Cody Weiss, who pitched the first seven innings, striking out nine, walking three and giving up five hits.

Weiss also went 2-3 at the plate with a double.

MENAHGA — Russell Burgoyne went 1-3 with with an RBI double that scored the Tigers’ only run in a 10-1 loss to Menahga Thursday.

Beau Howard pitched three innings for the Tigers, allowing five earned runs and five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Nathan Holm and Derek Sonenstahl added the only other hits for the Tigers.

BERTHA — Nick Brown notched a go-ahead RBI single in the fourth for the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders in a 9-4 loss at the hands of Ottertail Central Thursday.

Preston Riewer pitched 2.2 innings in relief for B-H/V, striking out the side in the fourth and striking out four total while walking as many and allowing three earned runs.

Erick Blaja and Dallas Ehrmantraut added two singles each for B-H/V in the Park Region Conference game.
