Area Softball: Jenks, Flyers rough up Melrose

MELROSE — Jamie Jenks went 3-4 with a double and two runs scored as Little Falls defeated Melrose 5-0 Tuesday in a non-conference game.

Alea Cekalla struck out five in seven innings for the Flyers, while surrendering only four hits.

Pequot Lakes sweeps W-DC

PEQUOT LAKES — Jessica Kreitz went 3-3 with an RBI and scored two runs while adding two hits and two RBIs in the second game of the Pequot lakes Patriots 9-8, 13-3 Mid-State Conference sweep of the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.

Michaela Lehmkuhl belted three hits, scored three runs and drove in three more for the Wolverines, including a two-run home run. Morgan Lugert and Brooke Umland added two hits each for WDC.

Pequot’s Kayla Miller and Alex Palm each scored two runs while notching two hits each in the second game.

W-DC’s Caitlin Volkmann and Melissa Moenkedick added two hits in the night cap.

Elizabeth Tomala pitched all nine innings. She allowed just two earned runs and struck out eight.

Pillager sweeps


VERNDALE — The Pillager Huskies piled up 27 runs in Tuesday’s Park Region Conference sweep of the Verndale Pirates.

Pillager’s Hannah Horn blasted a home run with two on and Caroline Razinski went 3-4 scoring twice in a 14-2 Game One victory.

The Huskies won Game Two 13-11. Lacy Hiltner went 3-4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI and Cierra Anderson finished 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Carly Bell picked up both wins pitching all six innings in the first game and coming on in relief for the second.

CASS LAKE — Autumn Ackerman went 3-4 with a triple, plus pitched the Pine River-Backus Tigers to a 9-1 Upper Mississippi Conference victory over Cass Lake-Bena Tuesday.

Ackerman allowed just two hits and struck out five in the Tigers’ first conference win.

Journee Howard finished 3-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Tatum Sheley doubled and Nicole Arends was 2-4.

GLENWOOD — Kelsey Zetah and Alexis Bendson each knocked out two hits for Staples-Motley in a 6-5 win over Minnewaska in a non-conference game on Tuesday.

Zetah was 2-3 with one run scored, while Bendson finished with a 2-4 day with one run scored and two RBIs.

AITKIN — Mikaela Michaletz went 2-4 for Aitkin as the Gobblers were edged by Isle 8-3 in the Great River Conference game.

Rachel Curtiss struck out six in four innings, while allowing seven walks, 10 hits and four earned runs.
