Area Baseball: Aitkin routs Rangers

HINCKLEY — Dan Bender struck out nine, while giving up one hit and one walk as Aitkin routed Crosby-Ironton 17-0 in Friday’s opening round of the Hinckley-Finlayson tournament.

Travis Bare knocked two doubles and drove in four runs and Drew Burke added a bases-clearing triple for the Gobblers.

LITTLE FALLS — Luke Thoma pitched a five-inning shutout and the Little Falls’ batters found the long ball as Class 2A’s top-ranked Flyers dominated the Princeton Tigers 12-0 in a Granite Ridge Conference game Friday.

Matt Valentine hit a three-run home run in the third. Joey Hanowski went 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs and Collin Eckman ripped a triple.

Thoma struck out seven and walked none.

PEQUOT LAKES — Gage Kennedy ripped four hits including a double and struck out three in two innings to close the game as Pequot Lakes edged Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 10-7 in a non conference game Friday.

Nick Greiner added two hits and two RBIs and Gaven Bickford hit a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.

Pillager falls twice

PILLAGER — The Pillager Huskies suffered their first Park Region Conference losses of the season falling to Parkers Prairie 7-4 and 7-2 Friday.

Adam Obermiller went 2-3 in Game One and the Huskies got doubles from Devrin House, Jeff Flickinger and Justin Hummel.

Obermiller went 2-3 again in Game Two with a double and Matt Doss finished 2-4.

Tigers split

CASS LAKE — Beau Howard hit a homer in Game One and Nathan Holm pitched a complete game in Game Two as Pine River-Backus split a Northland Conference doubleheader with Cass Lake-Bena Friday.

Howard’s home run and Darian Rubner’s double were the Tigers’ highlights of an 8-4 Game One loss.

Holm struck out 14 in a 4-3 PR-B win.
