AREA BASEBALL: Aitkin's Ferdelman strikes out 18 in no-hitter

HINCKLEY — Aitkin’s Evan Ferdelman pitched his second no-hitter of the season, a 3-0 gem with 18 strikeouts, as the Gobblers blanked Hinckley-Finalyson 3-0 to win the H-F tournament Saturday.

Ferdelman walked three and recorded four strikeouts in the first, with one batter reaching base on a passed ball.

Nathan Ehnstrom was 2-2 with a walk and RBI. Peter Zasmeta was 1-4 with an RBI and Logan Quade drove in an Aitkin run.

Ferdelman’s no-hitter was the third of the season for Aitkin.

In three tournament games the Gobblers allowed just five hits and two runs.

Ehnstrom went six inings to get the win in Saturday’s first game as Aitkin beat Esko 9-2. He struck out six and walked four.

Jaron Brezinsky was 2 -2 with a walk, sacrifice, double, and two RBIs. Zasmeta was 2-3 with two RBIs. Ethnstrom was 1-3 with a sacrifice and three RBIs.

LITTLE FALLS — Collin Eckman notched three hits while driving in four runs as Class 2A’s top-ranked Little Falls Flyers remained unbeaten by rallying past Melrose 12-6 Saturday.

Joey Hanowski belted a home run and added four RBIs for Little Falls.

Little Falls starting pitcher Gabe Ploof tallied a win with a five-inning, one earned run performance while striking out six.

HINCKLEY — Michael Hoge ripped two hits and a double in each game as Crosby-Ironton fell to Hinckley-Finlayson 8-0 and to Esko 16-6 in the H-F Finlayson tournament Saturday.

The Rangers were held to four hits in an 8-0 second-round loss against Hinckley-Finlayson.

Brady Sabyan contributed two hits and a double in a 16-11 third-round loss against Esko.
