Junior U.S. curler Busche dies

Junior U.S. curler Elizabeth Busche of Duluth, who has relatives on the Cuyuna Range, died Thursday, May 3, of cancer.

Busche was the granddaughter of Crosby resident Roberta (LaLa Perovich) Otto, great-granddaughter of Eva and George Perovich and great-great granddaughter of Cuyuna Range pioneers Mary and Pepo Vranish.

Busche was the third player and vice skip of the 2012 Junior Women’s National Curling Championship Team and Team USA that participated in the 2012 Junior World Curling Championships in Ostersund, Sweden.

The 19-year-old was one of the outstanding players in the championship, having earned the right to represent the USA after winning the Junior National Championships with her team in Madison, Wis., earlier this year.

Busche, a 2011 graduate of Duluth Marshall High School, was a freshman at North Dakota State University.
