GRAND RAPIDS — A four-run third inning and three-run sixth helped Class 3A’s 19th-ranked Grand Rapids Thunderhawks defeat the Brainerd Warriors 10-5 in a non-conference game Thursday.
Blake Thiesse was 2-4 with an RBI and Drew Sannes was 2-3 with an RBI to lead Brainerd at the plate. The Warriors did not have an extra-base hit.
Losing pitcher Blake Peterson went four innings. He allowed seven runs, all earned, and gave up eight hits. He issued four walks, struck out one and hit two batters.
Luke Boran pitched the last two innings, allowing three earned runs and four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Hunter Shepard hit a 3-run homer in the Grand Rapids sixth.
“It was one of the few games we’ve played all year where the wind was blowing out,” Warriors coach Lowell Scearcy said. “It was a good day to score some runs.”
