AREA BASEBALL: Parker, Chambers back Kostecka's pitching

PEQUOT LAKES — Aaron Parker and Connor Chambers combined to drive in seven runs and Peter Kostecka pitched a 1-hit shutout as the Pequot Lakes Patriots blanked the Crosby-Ironton Rangers 11-0 in a 5-inning Mid-State Conference Friday.

Parker went 3-3 with two doubles, hit a solo home run and had three RBIs.

Chambers finished 3-3 with four RBIs.

In his complete game Kostecka had eight strikeouts with three walks. Michael Hoge had the only C-I hit.

Pillager 7

PINE RIVER — Pillager outhit Pine River-Backus 12-8, but it was the Tigers who defeated the Huskies 8-7 in a non-conference game Friday.

PR-B started the seventh trailing 7-5, but rallied for three runs with the winning score coming on a bases-loaded squeeze bunt by Beau Howard.

The Tigers received two singles each from Russ Burgoyne, Derek Sonenstahl and Howard.

Matt Doss went 3-4 with a double for Pillager. Also ripping doubles and finishing with two hits apiece for the Huskies were Jeff Flickinger, Cole Hunstad, Justin Hummel and Tristan Litke.

VERNDALE — Dillon Card notched two hits, including a double and drove in two runs, as Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale edged Ottertail Central 8-7 Friday in a Park Region Conference game.

Dallas Ehrmantraut collected the win by relieving starter Preston Riewer in the fourth and striking out two while allowing just one hit in 2.2 innings. Riewer came back to the mound to earn the save in the final frame.
