AREA GIRLS GOLF: Israelson, Stone, Heggerston All-Mid-State

BREEZY POINT — Staples-Motley’s Emily Israelson was runner-up and Pequot Lakes’ Savannah Stone and Maggie Heggerston tied for third and fifth, respectively, in the Mid-State Conference tournament Monday at Whitebirch Golf Course.

Israelson shot 76 to finish five shots behind medalist Kate Smith of Detroit Lakes. Stone carded a 77 and Heggerston followed one shot behind.

Pequot Lakes finished second, 14 shots behind champion Detroit Lakes. S-M was third at 360, Wadena-Deer Creek fifth and Crosby-Ironton sixth.

“It was our personal best (score) but it was not quite good enough,” Pequot coach Jon Dale said. “DL is ranked No. 1 in the state, we’re ranked third. I guess you can bum out a little bit about the conference but thank God they’re not in our section. If you lose to the No. 1 team in the state that’s OK I guess.”

Israelson, Stone and Heggerston made the all-conference team. Erika Schwalbe and Sam Olmscheid, both of Pequot Lakes, received honorable mention.
