Gobblers just miss advancing

HIBBING — Dan Klucas, Lyle Nyberg and Jack Reeves each won singles matches for the fourth-seeded Aitkin Gobblers, who were eliminated from the Section 7-1A team tournament Saturday by top-seeded Duluth Marshall.

The Hilltoppers went on to win the section title by sweeping Virginia 7-0.

“It was a very close match, but a disappointment for Aitkin because we’ve been playing well all season, and we had defeated Duluth Marshall earlier in the season,” said Aitkin assistant coach Cindy Walz.

Aitkin finished the year 12-6 and will now compete in the section individual tournament.
