HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Warriors drop regular-season finale 9-7
ALEXANDRIA — An 8-run third inning propelled the Alexandria Cardinals to a 9-7 win over the Brainerd Warriors in the final game of the regular season Tuesday.
The Cardinals’ AJ Anderson and Erich Murphy hit home runs in the third to lead Alexandria to its sixth straight win.
The loss was the third straight for Brainerd, which finishes 9-5 in the Central Lakes Conference, 11-9 overall, and likely will open the Section 8-3A playoffs on the road Monday.
Blake Thiesse doubled and went 2-4 with a run. Mitch McLain was 2-4, scored two runs, doubled and drove in a run. Riley Kline was 2-4 with a run scored. Ben Stall delivered a 2-run double in the first.
Losing pitcher Blake Peterson went 2.1 innings. He allowed seven runs, six earned, and eight hits, with one strikeout and one walk.
Reliever Drew Sannes finished. He allowed two runs, none earned, and four hits, with three strikeouts and one walk.
