HOCKEY: McLain to play for Langley in BCHL

Mitch McLain of Brainerd High School has committed to the Langley (B.C. Canada) Rivermen Junior A Club of the British Columbia Hockey League.

McLain recorded 35 goals and 29 assists for 64 points in 25 games last season for the Warriors.

“I am very excited to come to the Rivermen next season,” McLain said in a news release. “I have always wanted to be a hockey player after high school and Langley really sounds like a great place to play and the Rivermen organization seems like an awesome team to play for.”

The 6-1, 190-pound forward liked what he heard from Rivermen head coach/general manager Bobby Henderson.

“The town, the area and the Henderson family’s drive to succeed, not only as an organization, but getting their players to the next level was a huge factor for me and I couldn’t be more pleased with my decision,” said McLain.

Henderson was happy to land McLain.

“As soon as I saw him play I knew we had to get him in a Rivermen uniform,” Henderson said in the news release. “He is big, fast, skilled, and competes very hard, which we really like. He is a well-rounded athlete and we expect him to contribute immediately.”

McLain was the starting quarterback on the Warrior football team and is an infielder on the baseball team this spring.

“I have always enjoyed playing football and baseball, but ever since I was a little kid I dreamed of being a Division I and professional hockey player and have always had an extra love for hockey,” McLain said.

“I hope that we (Langley can make) it into the postseason and go as far as we can in the playoffs,” McLain added. “I also want to grow as a player individually in my time there and hopefully move on to Division I hockey at some point.”
