AREA SOFTBALL: Top-seeded Pillager eliminated

BRANDON — The No. 1-seeded Pillager Huskies’ hopes of advancing to the section Final Four were dashed Thursday when No. 4 Brandon-Evansville eked out a 6-5 win in the second round of the South Subsection 6-1A tournament.

Caroline Rasinski went 3-4 with three RBIs for the Huskies, who finish the season 11-10.

“Each team had 10 hits and two errors,” said Pillager coach Shannon Hunstad, “but we just couldn’t put our hits together when we needed them.

“We felt so good about the way we were playing going into the playoffs. After starting 0-6, we were 11-3 going in.”

Pillager took an early 2-0 lead and was up 4-1 when B-E scored three runs in the sixth with two out.
