TRACK AND FIELD: Walters sets record, Warrior boys finish second
Brainerd MN 506 James St. / PO Box 974 56401

COLLEGEVILLE — Four first-place finishes, including a conference record by Jackson Walters in the 110 hurdles, led the Brainerd boys to a second-place finish behind Sartell in the Central Lakes Conference meet Thursday at St. John’s University.

Walters’ time of 14.68 in the 110s edged the previous record of 14.69 set in 2004 by Blake Strouth of Alexandria. Walters currently holds the Brainerd school record of 14.57. He also placed sixth in the 300 hurdles.

Josh Murrey (13-5) and Miles Pearson (12-11) went 1-2 in the pole vault and Tim Nelson (11-5) finished fifth.

Jacob Kassulker’s toss of 146-10 won the discus and he was third in the shot put.

Nick Oldham won the 200 dash with a time of 23.20 and Isaiah Smith tied for second in the high jump.

Honor roll performances (top 15 in Brainerd history) were earned by Kassulker in the discus, Smith in the high jump and Pearson in the pole vault.

All-conference honors were awarded to the top three individuals in each event. Those placing fourth through sixth received honorable mention. Relay teams finishing first and second were all-conference. Honorable mention went to the third- and fourth-place relays.

“We had a very good team effort today,” said Warrior boys coach Rod Reuer. “We competed 29 athletes and 20 were either all-conference or honorable mention.”

Allison Kosobud secured a victory in the 800 run and came in second in the 400 dash as the Brainerd girls team finished third with 109.20 points.

Sydnie Mauch also had a victory for the Warriors in shot put.

Runners-up included Chloe Miller in the 100 hurdles and Jenna Degen in the triple jump.
