AMATEUR BASEBALL: Heidmann's hit helps Devils stun unbeaten Fort Ripley

FORT RIPLEY — Zach Heidmann’s 2-out, 2-run single in the top of the ninth broke a 2-2 tie as the St. Mathias Devils knocked the Fort Ripley Rebels from the Victory League unbeaten ranks with a 4-3 win Sunday.

Heidmann’s single put the Devils ahead 4-2. Brett Kramer hit a long solo home run in the bottom of the ninth for the Rebels to make it 4-3.

Fort had the potential tying run on base as Nick Jelacie reached but the Rebels were unable to score him.

Former Rebels pitcher Josh Haberman went the distance for St. Mathias to get the win. He allowed just six hits with two of those by Jason Sather. Haberman struck out two and walked five.

Heidmann and Blake Thiesse each had three hits for the Devils.

Jelacie and Bill Sather had doubles for the Rebels.

Ethan Branum was tagged with the loss. He struck out seven and walked two.

Brewers 19, Bulldogs 2

PIERZ — Eric Boser hit a first-inning grand slam and Mike Weber went 4 for 5 as the Pierz Brewers broke out of a season-long slump with a resounding 19-2 win Sunday over the Pierz Bulldogs.

Boser finished 3-4. Weber, playing in his first game this season, scored four runs. Mike Boser had three hits and an RBI and Greg Pohlkamp added two hits for the Brewers.

Jonathan Hanson and Andy Leidenfrost drove in the Bulldogs’ runs.

Sobieski 12, Cuyuna 0

CROSBY — For the second straight day, the Sobieski Skis scored in double figures and pounded out 17 hits.

Sobieski beat Freeport 14-1 on Saturday and followed with a 12-0 blanking of the Cuyuna Range Miners on Sunday.

Tyler Jendro had a 4-hit day while Nate Olson drilled three doubles and drove in two runs for the Skis. Jon Czech went 3-5 with two doubles and drove in four Sobieski runs.

Cole Jendro struck out 10 in six shutout innings to earn the win.

Mac Jones had two hits for the Miners.

Lastrup 10, St. Wendel 5

ST. WENDEL — Jason Sadlovsky and Rick Schlieman blasted home runs to power the Lastrup Lakers past the St. Wendel Saints 10-5 Sunday.

A 5-run top of the ninth featured Sadlovsky’s 2-run homer while Schlieman added a 3-run blast in the third.

Reggie Litke relieved Chad Weiss and pitched the final two innings to get the win. Weiss, who went 3 for 5, struck out 10 and walked three but gave up 13 hits.

For the Saints, Damien Dumonceaux had three hits, including a 3-run homer, and Trevor Van Heel added three hits, including a double.
