AREA BASEBALL: Albany stuns top-seeded, top-ranked Flyers
ST. CLOUD — With a walk, sacrifice bunt, hit-by-pitch, and two more walks in succession in the eighth, No. 5-seeded Albany seized a 3-2 lead that stuck as Class 2A’s top-rated Little Falls Flyers fell 3-2 in the East Subsection 6-2A semifinals Tuesday night.
Luke Thoma went the distance for top-seeded Little Falls, striking out five and walking five.
Joey Hanowski went 2-3 with a triple for the Flyers while Thoma went 1-2 with an RBI double.
Little Falls left runners at first and second in the bottom of the eighth.
“We had a great year, we needed to execute in the playoffs but we didn’t,” Flyers coach John Hanowski said. “We needed two-out hits, you just gotta do things like that this time of year.
“Give Albany credit. They played better than us. We had a good year though at 20-2.”
