Area Boys Golf: Gobblers, Rangers advance to section

BIWABIK — Kyle Thompson of Aitkin was the top area qualifier in Wednesday’s first round of the Section 7-2A tournament at Giants Ridge.

Thompson shot an 84 to finish in 12th place. Teammate Will Peterson shot a 93 to finish 36th.

Tom Burgstaler and Andy Sorben of Crosby-Ironton were also qualifiers. Burgstaler recorded an 85 to finish 16th, and Sorben was 20th with an 86.

All four golfers advance to the final round Friday.

W-DC’s Goeden advances

to Section 8-2A finals

PARK RAPIDS — Jacob Goeden carded an 86 in the South Subsection 8-2A tournament Wednesday and was the only player from Wadena-Deer Creek to qualify for the section tournament Monday at Longbow Golf Course in Walker.

Konner Steuve and Adam Lund each shot 96 for the Wolverines who placed seventh as a team.

The top three teams, and the next six players from the remaining teams, advance to the section.
