However, for the first time in many years, according to Pioneers coach Craig Johnshoy, no boy or girl from Pierz will advance to the state 1A meet.

The top two individuals and top two relay teams in each event advance in addition to those qualifying by standard.

Alyssa Boser added a fifth place in the shot put for the Pierz girls.

For the Pioneer boys, Devaunte Stumpf and Jesua Kasper were third and fourth in the high jump and Caleb Janson was seventh.

Tyler Millner crossed the line fifth in the 100 dash, was eighth in the 300 hurdles and was on the fourth-place 4x100 relay with Preston Weber, Ben Huffman and Michael Marshik.

Weber also lept to an eighth-place finish in the long jump and Marshik was ninth in the triple jump.

The Pioneers’ 4x200 relay (Dustin Waytashek, Tyler Kieffer, Janson and Marshik) finished sixth. Waytashek added 12th- and 15th-place finishes in the shot put and discus.
