Sophomore team opens with split

Drew Sannes pitched a complete game and T.J. Graumann drove in three runs as the Brainerd sophomore team won the first game of a doubleheader 10-5 against Sauk Rapids Wednesday at Adamson Field.

Sannes gave up just one earned run while striking out 10.

Brainerd lost Game Two 12-3. Two Brainerd pitchers combined to walk nine Sauk Rapids batters and hit two others. Jamie Stall, Dillon Solid and Clark Hickman each had two hits for Brainerd.

Freshmen split

Taylor Streiff contributed three hits as Brainerd’s freshmen team beat Staples-Motley 6-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday at Mills Field.

Streiff was 3-3 with two runs and two doubles. Evan Brecht was 2-3 with a run and triple. Hayden Bukowski was 2-2 with a run and RBI.

Staples-Motley won the second game 7-4 as Jordan Denning went 3-3 with two RBIs and Brent Sterriker was 1-3 with a run, triple and RBI.

Leading hitters for Brainerd were Tom Eschenbacher (2-2) and Dan Henderson (2-3).
