Jacks lose despite Steier’s big game
WOODBURY — Wade Steier passed for 200 yards and added 130 yards rushing in three quarters while leading the team with eight tackles as the Brainerd Lumberjacks fell to the Minnesota Sting 55-20 at East Ridge High School in a Midwest Premier Football League game Saturday.
The loss snapped the Lumberjacks’ three-game win streak.
Due to travel issues, 15 Lumberjack players arrived midway through the second quarter, enabling the Sting to take a 21-0 lead.
Ra Ra Jones led the Lumberjacks in receiving with 162 yards, including an 80-yard strike from Steier.
The Jacks mounted a rally in the second quarter with two quick touchdowns to close the score to 21-14, but the Sting countered with punt block return for a touchdown.
“Once everybody was there we did well,” Lumberjacks coach J.J. Kern said.
Brainerd will host the undefeated and nationally ranked Twin Cities Titans at 4 p.m. next Saturday at Harvey Shew Field at Franklin Arts Center.
“We’re excited to have a home game and a shot at ‘em” Kern added.
