SEMIPRO FOOTBALL: Illies, Lumberjacks upset unbeaten Titans

Jacks upset unbeaten, No. 3 Titans

Jackson Illies passed for more than 200 yards as the Brainerd Lumberjacks upset the undefeated and No. 3-ranked Twin Cities Titans 13-12 at Shew Field at Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd Saturday.

Illies threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Ra Ra Jones, who led the Lumberjacks in receiving with 142 yards.

Gyangelo Bradden recovered a fumble for a touchdown and led Brainerd in tackles. It was Bradden’s third defensive touchdown of the season,

Titus Cole and Eric Johnson each had two sacks for the Lumberjacks, who improved to 5-2. Brainerd had lost to Titans 42-7 on May 12.

“It was a great win,” Lumberjacks coach J.J. Kern said. “We just had more time to get prepared (than the May 12 game).

“We were excited to see how much better we’d gotten and home field advantage is a big deal. We want to express our thanks to everyone who came out to support the team.

“The way things are looking there’s a good possibly that we will see the Titans in the playoffs and both teams are excited about that.”

Overall: Brd 5-2. Next: Granite City Renegades vs. Brainerd Lumberjacks, Shew Field, Franklin Arts Center, 4 p.m. Saturday.
