Semipro football: Ra Ra lights up Renegades

Third-string quarterback Mark Hummel threw for 380 yards and four touchdowns as the Brainerd Lumberjacks picked up their sixth win of the season, 33-20 over the Granite City Renegades on Saturday at Shew Field in Brainerd in a Midwest Premier Football League showdown.

Ra Ra Jones racked up 195 yards receiving while scoring twice.

“A lot of people want to come out to see guys like Ra Ra, but a lot of those plays don’t happen if the linemen don’t play as well as they did today,” said Raiders head coach J.J. Kern. “They were phenomenal.”

The electricity on offense was mirrored by a stellar performance on defense for the Lumberjacks. Safety Gyangelo Bradden led the team with 12 tackles and Titus Cole added three sacks.

“We’re not stopping, we need to get better...what matters is being the best we can be come playoffs so we can win a championship.” Kern said.

The Lumberjacks are now 6-2 heading into a game against the Twin City Rhinos Saturday, a team coming off their first win.
