Victory League Baseball: Nisswa owns the North

NISSWA — The Nisswa Lightning are heating up.

After knocking off Fort Riply to claim the top spot in the North Divison Friday, Nisswa dismantled the Cuyuna Range Miners 11-1 Sunday in seven innings.

That victory clinched the North Divison for the second-year Victory League team.

Nisswa’s Jason Ropke went 2-4 with a home run and Mike Zauhar was 2-5 with RBI, run and stolen base.

Mark Germain also went 3-5 with two RBIs and a run for the Lightning.

Brett Cloutier pitched the victory. He allowed one run on four hits and three walks. He struck out four.

Nisswa earns an automatic bid to the 20-12 REgion 8C tournament.

Cuyuna’s John Hoge scored a run and Lance Herbst hit a double.

Fort Ripley 3, St. Mathias 2

ST. MATHIAS — Rhett Williamson went 2-4 and scored a run and drove in the tying and go-head run in the fifth inning to lead Fort Ripley to a 3-2 victory over St. Mathias Sunday.

Logan Kallis was 3-4 with a run and Ray Austin had RBI for Fort Ripley.

Jake Francis went 2-5 with a double. Zach Heidmann drove in two runs and Blake Thiesse scored two runs for the Devils.

Bulldogs 6, Harding 5

PIERZ — Jeff Riley went 2-4 with two home runs and three RBIs to power the Pierz Bulldogs past the Harding Dinosaurs 6-5 Sunday.

Riley’s solo homer in the bottom of the eighth was the difference.

Andy Leidenfrost pitched the victory. He struck out four, walked five and allowed five runs on nine hits. Pete Herman pitched the ninth for the save.

Harding’s Gary Woitalla was 2-3 with a home run, walk two RBIs and a run scored.

Brad Meyer was 2-4 with a run for the Dinosaurs.

Lastrup 11, Brewers 0

PIERZ — The Lastrup Lakers remained unbeaten with a 11-0 victory over the Pierz Brewers Sunday in an East Division matchup.

Rick Schlieman went 3-4 with a home run and three RBIs and Chad Weiss struck out five in seven innings. He allowed just three hits, with one a double by Pierz’s Mike Poser.

Nathan Janson was 3-4 and Reggie Litke 2-5 with an RBI for Lastrup.

Nisswa 14, Flensburg 0

NISSWA — The Lightning struck twice Sunday.

After topping the Cuyuna Range Miners earlier, Nisswa exploded for a 14-0 seven-inning victory over Flensburg.

Tylwer Wittwer and Jason Roepke both hit home runs for the Lightning. Roepke drove in five runs and scored twice. Luke Schumer scored three times and drove in a run for Nisswa.

Lincoln Messner went the distance. He struck out eight and allowed no run son four hits and one hit batter.

Saturday’s game

St. Stephen 12, Harding 2

HARDING — Ben Anderson went 3-5 and smashed a home run while driving in three runs as St. Stephen sailed past Harding 12-2 Saturday.

Chad Herman was 2-3 with a RBI for Harding. Josh Boser added two hits and Mitch Dorn drove in a run.

Friday’s game

Nisswa 5, Fort Ripley 0

NISSWA — Luke Schumer struck out six in a complete game shutout and helped his cause by going 3-5 with two runs and an RBI as Nisswa moved into first place in the North division with a 5-0 win over Fort Ripley Friday.

Drew Boland went 2-3 with a double, RBI and stolen base for Nisswa.

Rob Veith Jr. was 2-5 with a double and Brett Kramer added a double for Fort Ripley.
