Area Legion Baseball: Wadena-Deer Creek, Staples-Motley split doubleheader

WADENA — Wadena-Deer Creek jumped all over Staples-Motley to win the first game of Monday’s doubleheader 14-4, but S-M fought back to take the second game 5-2.

Jalen Busker went 3-4 with an RBI and run scored in Game One for S-M and Tyler Holub was 2-2.

Jordan Wick was the winning pitcher for S-M in Game Two while Busker finished 2-3 with two runs scored and Seth Auger went 2-2 with a run scored.

Pierz sweeps Aitkin

PIERZ — Pierz swept both games of Monday’s doubleheader with Aitkin, winning the first 5-2 in seven innings and taking the second five-inning game 2-1.

Cody Weiss pitched all seven innings to win Game One, striking out eight. Evan Ferdelman took the loss.

Brady Dorn was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs in the first game for Pierz and Weiss added a double to help his cause.

Ferdelman was 2-3 with a double and drove in both of Aitkin’s runs.

Brad Meyer took the win for Pierz in Game Two and Cody Meyer finished 1-2 with an RBI.

Logan Quade finished 1-2 with a double and scored Aitkin’s only run.
